Rebuilding Together Philadelphia provides free home repairs to income-eligible homeowners in Philadelphia, focusing on health, safety, and energy efficiency. Founded in 1988 as "Christmas in April" by Robert Bellinger and fellow Wharton graduate students, Rebuilding Together Philadelphia became an independent affiliate of Rebuilding Together, Inc. in 2003. The organization recognizes that homeownership builds long-term wealth but that Black and brown Americans historically lack equal access to this opportunity. RTP addresses institutional and longstanding racial inequities in housing by providing critical repairs to approximately 150 homeowners annually, making homes safe, healthy, and secure for families living paycheck to paycheck.
RTP's diverse team includes President & CEO Stefanie F. Seldin, Director of Operations Brandon Alcorn, and specialized staff across programs, construction, development, and communications. The team features skilled tradespeople including Construction Supervisor Ron Harmon and Carpenter Tian Henderson, program managers Geovannie Albertorio-Aponte, Hector Espinosa, and Tess McGinley, and support staff in grants, volunteer coordination, and project management. The organization emphasizes being a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace where all employees and volunteers feel valued and respected.
RTP operates Block Builds (multi-day neighborhood repair projects), an Asthma Trigger Reduction program, and the Middle Neighborhoods Initiative. The organization also hosts the annual Run to Rebuild, a family-friendly 5K run and 2-mile walk fundraiser along Forbidden Drive in Fairmount Park, and coordinates MLK Day of Service projects focused on community improvements.
RTP hosts regular Block Builds in neighborhoods like Fairhill, West Philadelphia, and Dunlap, typically spanning two days with volunteers and homeowners working together on repairs. The annual Run to Rebuild (held in May) is the organization's primary fundraiser. Additional events include MLK Jr. Day of Service projects, Volunteer Appreciation Parties, and community open houses. Upcoming 2025-2026 events include neighborhood block builds, the 16th Annual Run to Rebuild, and service day projects.
