Esperanza is a faith-based nonprofit organization serving Hispanic communities in North Philadelphia for over 30 years. Driven by the biblical mandate to "serve the least of these," Esperanza empowers individuals on a pathway out of poverty through education, economic development, workforce training, immigration legal services, and community advocacy. The organization strengthens neighborhoods by offering programs that cultivate self-belief, grit, and knowledge acquisition, enabling clients and students to develop agency and influence over their own lives.

For more than 30 years, Esperanza has been strengthening Hispanic communities through a comprehensive range of services. The organization is characterized by three core values: faith (showing God's love through humble, compassionate service), integrity (managing operations honestly with the highest ethical standards), and excellence (providing quality programs with continuous improvement). Esperanza's work spans education, economic development, and advocacy, helping individuals accumulate assets and skills for successful advancement.
Esperanza is led by Founder and CEO Rev. Luis Cortés, Jr. The board includes Martin Droz (Chair), Tiffany Tavarez (Vice Chair), Juan Lopez (Treasurer), and Beth Morales Singh (Secretary), along with nine additional board members representing leadership from major Philadelphia institutions including Temple University, Jefferson, Independence Blue Cross, The Vanguard Group, Morgan Lewis & Bockus, PECO, J.P. Morgan Chase, and Citizens Bank.
Esperanza offers diverse programs across education (Esperanza College, Esperanza Academy Charter School, Esperanza Cyber Charter School), economic development (housing counseling, workforce development, neighborhood revitalization), quality of life services (immigration legal services, youth leadership, digital skills training), and arts and culture (Esperanza Arts Center, AMLA music education). The organization also conducts national advocacy work on immigration reform, religious freedom, and charter school education, serving as a national intermediary that has managed over $48 million in government and corporate grants.
Esperanza hosts community events including "Celebrating Hope for Immigrants: Rooted in Resilience," the signature fundraiser for Esperanza Immigration Legal Services held at the Esperanza Arts Center, featuring live music, culinary experiences, and recognition of civic leaders. The organization also hosts art exhibitions, community civic engagement events, and cultural celebrations at its facilities.
