United Way believes that poverty is a systemic issue rooted in old inequities, broken systems, and careless policies. The organization recognizes that poverty is cyclical, expensive, and disproportionately affects communities of color. United Way's approach involves listening to community voices, leveraging local expertise and partnerships, building coalitions across sectors, measuring and refining strategies, and sharing findings to strengthen sector capacity. The organization is committed to creating communities that honor diversity, equity, and inclusion, and to becoming an actively anti-racist organization.
United Way's leadership includes President and CEO Bill Golderer, along with an executive team overseeing business operations, human resources, impact initiatives, and specialized programs like the Center for Leadership Equity and Philadelphia Partnership for Nutrition & Health. The broader team includes directors and managers across community impact, development, donor operations, communications, and program areas.
United Way operates programs focused on immediate relief (Digital Navigator Network, Violence Prevention Hotline, 211 Helpline, United We Prepare) and long-term achievement (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, IDA & Match Savings Program, Camden Community Uplift, Center for Leadership Equity). The organization also hosts the OpportUNITY Summit and manages capacity-building initiatives for nonprofit partners.
