Esperanza is a faith-based nonprofit organization serving Hispanic communities in North Philadelphia for over 30 years. Driven by the biblical mandate to "serve the least of these," Esperanza empowers individuals on a pathway out of poverty through education, economic development, workforce training, housing counseling, immigration legal services, and arts and culture programs. The organization strengthens communities by cultivating self-belief, grit, and knowledge acquisition to help clients develop agency and influence over their own lives.

Founded in 1986, Esperanza has grown into a comprehensive community development organization offering housing counseling, economic development, workforce training, charter schools, higher education, immigration legal services, youth leadership programs, and arts education. The organization is driven by faith-based values and focuses on helping individuals accumulate assets—economic, physical, and psychological—that generate an effective toolkit for successful advancement. Esperanza also engages in political advocacy and civic engagement, including advocacy for comprehensive immigration reform and religious freedom.
Esperanza's Board of Directors includes Martin Droz (Chair), Tiffany Tavarez (Vice Chair), Juan Lopez (Treasurer), and Beth Morales Singh (Secretary), along with Rev. Luis Cortés, Jr., the Founder and CEO. The board comprises leaders from major Philadelphia institutions including Temple University, Jefferson, Independence Blue Cross, The Vanguard Group, McCormick Taylor, Morgan Lewis & Bockus LLP, PECO, J.P. Morgan Chase, and Citizens Bank, as well as faith leaders and community pastors.
Esperanza operates a comprehensive range of programs: Education (Esperanza College, Esperanza Academy Charter School, Esperanza Cyber Charter School); Community Economic Development (housing counseling, neighborhood revitalization, workforce development through Pennsylvania CareerLink); Quality of Life services (immigration legal services, youth leadership institute, digital skills training); and Arts & Culture (Esperanza Arts Center, AMLA music education program). Since 1986, Esperanza has served as a certified national intermediary by HUD, supporting housing counseling organizations nationwide.
Esperanza hosts community events including "Celebrating Hope for Immigrants: Rooted in Resilience," the signature fundraiser for Esperanza Immigration Legal Services held at the Esperanza Arts Center, featuring live music, culinary experiences, and recognition of civic leaders. The organization also hosts community engagement events such as voter registration drives and cultural exhibitions celebrating Latino arts and heritage.
