The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) uses horticulture to advance the health and well-being of the Greater Philadelphia region. Founded in 1827, PHS engages a diverse community of over 300,000 supporters, volunteers, and gardeners to create positive social and environmental change. The organization believes that gardening and horticulture belong to everyone and works to increase access to fresh food, create healthy living environments, build meaningful social connections, and expand economic opportunities.

PHS was founded in 1827 and adopted Vision 2027 in 2019 to fully commit to using horticulture for regional health and well-being. The organization operates through partnerships with community groups and thousands of city residents, enabling it to make the Greater Philadelphia region a more livable and vibrant place. PHS is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, using gardening and horticulture as tools to break down barriers to equity and create beautiful, healthy, and sustainable communities.
PHS is led by President Matt Rader and Executive Vice President Tamela Vieira, with a leadership team of over 25 directors and vice presidents overseeing areas including horticulture, public gardens, healthy neighborhoods, community gardens, workforce development, communications, finance, and operations.
PHS offers a variety of public programs and events including garden tours at PHS Meadowbrook Farm, workshops on topics like garden embroidery and herbalism, plant swaps at pop-up gardens in Manayunk and South Street, lectures through the Know To Grow series, and special events like the 1827 Society Garden Party. Events are held at multiple locations including PHS Meadowbrook Farm, the PHS McLean Library, pop-up gardens, and partner locations throughout the region.
