Chester Residents Concerned for Quality Living (CRCQL) is a grassroots, community-led environmental justice organization fighting for clean air in Chester, PA since 1992. The group challenges environmental racism in the city, which hosts the nation's largest trash incinerator and numerous other polluters. CRCQL advocates for ending toxic incineration, strengthening emission standards, and promoting zero waste solutions across Delaware County.
CRCQL leads the Chester Environmental Justice Movement demanding an end to toxic trash incineration at the Covanta facility, increased emission standards for polluters along the Delaware River, and clean air and zero waste resolutions across Delaware County.
CRCQL is a community-led activist group led by Chester residents and those concerned with local health and environmental justice. The organization has been fighting against environmental racism in Chester since 1992. Chester, Pennsylvania is recognized as one of the nation's worst cases of environmental racism, hosting the nation's largest trash incinerator, a sewage sludge incinerator, a paper mill, chemical plants, and toxic waste sites, with additional major polluters in neighboring waterfront boroughs.
CRCQL operates several initiatives including campaigns against incineration, zero waste advocacy, petitions to boycott entities that burn trash in Chester, webinars on ending incineration and zero waste practices, and community marches for environmental justice.
CRCQL hosts community events including the Annual Environmental Justice Day March, virtual conferences on law and policy for environmental justice, and activist walks highlighting polluters in the region. The organization also maintains an active calendar of meetings and community engagement opportunities.
