The Charles A. Melton Arts & Education Center, now operating as the West Chester Community Center, is a historic 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing civic, arts, recreation, and education programs to underserved individuals and families in the West Chester area. Located in West Chester, Pennsylvania, the center offers a wide variety of programming including basketball, dance, childcare, summer camps, and community events, along with event space rental for gatherings of all sizes.
The primary mission of the historic West Chester Community Center is to provide civic, arts, recreation, and education (CARE) programs and services to underserved individuals and families in the West Chester area.
The center offers basketball leagues, a community and children's garden, dance team, M.O.B.B.Y. program, New Directions Program, and the 2 Fish Community Cafe. Additional programs include the New Directions Childcare Center (serving ages 6 weeks to 12 years), STEM and Innovation Summer Camp for kindergarten through 6th grade, pickleball instruction and play sessions, and the annual CommUnity Day celebration.
Upcoming events include the 2026 Summer League Basketball (starting June 14th), a Dine Out to Give Back event at Texas Roadhouse on June 18th, the 16th Annual CommUnity Day featuring basketball championships, vendors, and food trucks, and regular pickleball sessions throughout the week.
